re :error message saying "An error occurred with the POP3 mail server" Is that the entire error message ? What POP server are you talking about? gmail, yahoo. AT&T, virginmedia etc ?

Suggest you post some info telling us the current server settings. In Thunderbird Help > Troubleshooting Information Mail and News Accounts section Copy all the information and paste it into a 'Post a Reply' text box in this question in the forum.

Message says: "An error occurred with the POP3 mail server. Mail server mail.gusjonesjewellers.co.uk responded:"

The other three email accounts are IMAPs and they work fine...

Still not a verbatim recitation of the error. it is what the server responded that says what the problem is.

This test suggest there may be issues with the domains MX record. https://intodns.com/gusjonesjewellers.co.uk

This test indicated the DIFFIE-HELLMAN PARAMETER is weak. I though it had to be 2048, but I just don't have time to look it up. But that change goes back to Thunderbird 38.
