Why do my dual screens suddenly switch positions

I am using Firefox 55.0.3 on Windows 10 Pro v1703 OS Build 15063.540. Processor is Intel i7-4790 CPU@ 3.60GHz with 8.00GB installed RAM. I installed dual monitors a some time ago and absolutely love the setup. One of my old monitors failed and not wanting different units I updated both of my monitors to Samsung S22F350 22" LED HD Super Slim Monitors Model: LS22F350FHNXZA at the end of July. I am running one monitor on HDMI and the other on analog. In the past week or two my monitors do not ALWAYS appear on their correct screen at startup. Also some times I get a momentary interrupt (less than 1 second), black screen, and afterward my monitor positions are swapped. I have arbitrarily set my HDMI unit as screen 1 and my analog unit as screen 2. After these momentary resets the system puts information on screen 2 (analog) preferentially.

Should screen numbers be in a specific order eg. Analog =1 and HDMI=2 or the reverse?

Probably not related but also occurring recently; BING has taken over as my default search engine, much to my dismay, and New Tab Override does not ALWAYS work.

Thank you in advance for any help with these matters.

You can check for recently installed suspicious or unknown extensions.

  • SafeSearch
  • SearchAssist Incognito

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
