The last several times the automatic update window comes up it says "downloading firefox" on the top of the progress bar and under it it says "connecting to update server..." and it stalls right there and never gets any further no matter how long I leave the update window open. I currently have Mac 7.0.1 installed and it has not been successful in getting past that point multiple times over multiple days. Now what? If I download a new firefox don't I then lose all my bookmarks, etc.? Updating is the only way to keep them - correct?

My mac system is OX 10.5.8

I found how to copy my bookmarks in case I'd lose them doing a separate install of the program and then manually downloaded version 8 point whatever it is that is most current. It then wouldn't copy to my applications folder to install!! (downloaded fine, went to drag it in the install window and it wouldn't do it). Is the problem that version of the mac ox 10.5.8 is now ancient enough that programs are starting not to work with them? Other? A gremlin now inhabits my mac? (I did run a virus, etc. checker and allegedly my mac is clean).
