I refreshed my firefox browser. When I did so it changed the settings in my application panel. Now I can not get firefox to automatically save zip, rar, package or other files that were set in the application panel before I did the refresh.

I guess I need to know what file do I copy from the Old firefox data folder, to reset these types of files to automatically save to my downloads folder.

I hope you can help me, Miriah

Look for mimeTypes.rdf in your Old Firefox Data folder. This file is actually a plain text file in XML format, so you could, with some difficulty, open it in a text editor (or Firefox tab) and search through it for ideas on what is missing if you don't actually want to swap in the file.

Thank you so much, I took the file from the Old Data folder and put it into the Firefox folder and it now gives me the option to Do this automatically. At least with the .package file ........ So I think you helped me fix it! Hugggs

Well the copying of the old file into the Firefox folder and replacing the new file didn't work.

I also tried to see if I could figure out how the downloads are saved, by using notebook to open mimeTypes.rdf, that didn't work either. I have no clue what so ever as to how to get Firefox to allow me to choose the Do something automatically.

Anyone else have any ideas that could help?

Or maybe someone with more knowledge about the mimeTypes.rdf file could fix it to save .package files automatically. Maybe by me sending them my mimeTypes.rdf file, they could fix it and email it back to me.

As you can see I am getting a bit desperate :)

Thanks to anyone who can (and already has) help me

Warning to EVERYONE, do not if at all possible refresh firefox. Nothing loads now ....... tumblr won't load, even this site I have to close several times and open it again to get it to load.

What a horrible mess!

Perhaps you should "roll back" the Refresh. Please do not use the Windows system restore feature for this, as it can cause total data loss. Instead, see the steps in the following post: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1086524#answer-788612

You could copy the cert8.db file from the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop to the current profile folder.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:
