Every time I open my email, it prompts me to enter a password. It then gives me an error message of locked by another session.
My error message says that sending of password for user ________(my email) did not succeed. Mails server pop-up server_____ responded: [In use] account is locked by another session or for maintenance, try again. In which I do and it still give me an error.

You have POP mail. Usually only a single user is allowed to access files at any one time. If two or more persons try to access the account, the first one logged in 'locks out' other users until they logout again. Then the 'lock' is released and another user can log in.
If the site is undergoing either scheduled or emergency maintenance, the techs may also set up locks on groups of accounts, or entire servers, so they can work on the system without any additional problems from users trying to access them.
I would be patient for a few hours, then try again. If the problem persists contact your provider before you start to change your Thunderbird setup.
