I've just had to do a factory reset on my pc. I've downloaded Thunderbird and set up my account with the profile I had backed up prior to the reset. However, I can't get past the password. There are only a limited number of things it could be and I've tried them all. How do I reset the password please?

I'm glad all is okay. Will you please mark this resolved so it gets removed from open issues list? Thank you.

Hi, in fact the problem isn’t quite solved. My emails have all downloaded, however my address book has gone. I’ve tried to import the abook.mab and abook.sql files from the profile I saved prior to the reset but neither works.

Did you also upgrade Thunderbird at same time? Do you recall release level of the old profile? There may be several abook.xxx files to copy over. You might try the new Tools>import, but that's just a guess. Maybe someone else here has better ideas.

Thanks - I tried the Tools/import method. I've found various abook files, and they're all empty so something has gone wrong. I'm close to giving up with Thunderbird, it's fine until you need to transfer it or do anything other than send/receive emails and then it's ridiculously complicated. Shame, I've been using it for years and years but maybe it's time for pastures new! Thanks for replying anyway.
