How to change which "next message" is opened after a delete

I have to use Outlook for work mail and I am trying to configure Thunderbird to behave similarly

I have my messages sorted in DESCENDING date/time (so the newest is always at the top)

If I start reading messages from the bottom (oldest) I'd like Thunderbird to move UP to the next message on a Delete

It doesn't, it always tries to move DOWN the list of messages - thus moving to less new ones

Can I change this anywhere? I've looked, bt nothing is obvious

Thanks

Phil G

Try this:

  • 'Tools' > 'Options' > Advanced' > 'General' Tab
  • click on 'config editor' button
  • it will tell you to be careful :)
  • in top search type 'mail.delete'
  • look for this line: mail.delete_matches_sort_order; set value as 'true'
  • double click to toggle 'false' to 'true'
  • close window - top right X
  • click on OK to save changes in Options
