Tried to empty cache. It froze. Now I can't access one web site. Is something now corrupt? I already checked for viruses....
I tried emptying my cache through Mozilla (not manually) a couple of times. Each time, it froze. After several tries, it seemed to be empty. However, when I tried to access a very common web site (no passwords involved) I could not get on.
I have checked for viruses and cleaned my computer. But the web site will only load to the point of showing an empty page and state that data are being loaded.
I tried another search engine; I tried another software. Neither worked. But other sites load just fine.
BTW, the web site is Environment Canada -- so it isn't the web site that is a problem.

Are you clearing the cookies as well when you say you clear the cache?
If that is the case then try to exclude the cookies and instead let all cookies expire when you close Firefox and if necessary create an allow exception for cookies that you want to keep.
Removing cookies created by plugins can cause this issue in this case.
Otherwise try to delete the cache folder manually in the location as shown on the about:cache page.
I cleaned the cookies as well as cache (sorry, wasn't specific about that). I also cleaned the cache manually but it did not fix the problem.
I'm not sure that going back and cleaning the cache and leaving the cookies alone will help at this point. I am still looking for a fix if possible.
Did you try to exclude the cookies?
Do you see multiple plugin-container processes appearing in the Task Manager when this happens?
Yes, just tried to clear the cache (again) without cookies. Didn't help.
Did not see any plugin-container processes in the task manager -- because I wasn't watching it. Should I try again?
Yes, please give it a try.
Are you using any cleanup software or anti-virus software that might keep a lock on files in the cache?
tried to clear the cache without clearing cookies. It didn't fix the problem.
Did not see any plugin-container processes in the task manager when clearing cache.
I am using Microsoft Essentials as anti-virus. Added Malwarebytes since the problem showed up. I don't think they are locking files in the cache.
You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.
Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make a note of those passwords and bookmarks.
You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.
It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.
Tried it. Thought (was hopeful) it would work. It didn't fix the spinning with a blank page... and bottom margin saying that data are loading.
