Window button for reminders missing when using adwaita theme
Hi All,
I run thunderbird 38.3.0 with the lightning calendar extension in Ubuntu 14.04 on a Gnome 3 desktop. Recently I have installed the adwaita window theme. When the calendar reminder pop up-window appears, there are no window buttons.
Anyone got a clue?
If more info is required, I am more than happy to provide it!
Many thanks in advance!

there are no window buttons.
What exactly are 'window buttons'?
By that I mean the buttons to maximize, minimize or close a window

I've seen other windows not related to Thunderbird showing the same behavior. I think this is a Gnome thing, not Thunderbird. In any case, you can right-click the title bar of such a window and choose 'Close' to close it.
Have your tried another GTK 3 theme?
First of all, thanks for the response!

It's not just in Gnome, it also happen in Cinnamon, when using the adwaita theme.

Yes I know, but wouldn't it be so much nicer if you could just close it by clicking? I'm pretty sure its an easy fix.

I have, and it doesn't happen when using Ambiance for example (haven't tried any others)
Thank you trying to fix this!

Wonder if the Window manager theme used for title bar could be a issue actually.
Currently Firefox 41.0.2 and Thunderbird 38.3.0 requires GTK 2.18 or higher.
Firefox 43.0 may be requiring GTK 3.4+ at minimum so Thunderbird 45.0 may be also. This mean GTK 3 themes will be needed then.
Hi James,
I a little bit of a beginner in these things. How can I check whether Adwaita is a Gtk2 or Gtk3 theme?

Since you have Gnome 3 and if a default theme it is likely a GTK 3.x version. Not used to Ubuntu but it should be listed in package manager if installed that way as one can put themes you get from gnome-look.org in say .themes for example.

I still use Xfce even on fairly recently built system with i5-4690k and 16gb Ram I use GTK 2.x Themes, particularly a old Wii-Black theme I have done modifications to myself and still works good. The Xfce is like a lighter version of Gnome 2 as I dislike the Gnome 3 look and ways of doing things.
Yet to find a GTK 3.x theme I truly like but will have to use them when GTK 3.4+ will be the minimum requirement if I want to theme Firefox/SeaMonkey better compared to default look.

Interesting post!
It does not solve the riddle however. If I use the numix window theme (as is suggested) I still don't get window button in my reminder pop ups.
Could it be that it is simply a 'forgotten' type of window in the theme? By that I mean, that there are no settings in the theme index for such a popup window?
Suggest you enable the Title bar.
Try this:
- Edit >Preferences > Advanced > General tab
- Click on 'Config Editor' button
- it will tell you to be careful :)
- In top search type: title
- look for this line: mail.tabs.drawInTitlebar
- If Value = 'True', double click on the line to toggle the 'True' to 'False'
- close Config Editor window - top right X
- click on OK to save and close Options
Hi Toad-Hall,
Thanks for the response!
I have just tried out your suggestion, Unfortunately it didn't work.
