Trying to submit a review on Hunterfan.com using Firefox is not possible. Despite turning off such "Privacy and Security" settings as "Permissions->Block pop-up windows" I still get the warning "Disable Ad-blocker to submit a review" and can never submit the review.

This has also happened on other web sites where I was submitting a feedback, or support request form and has necessitated using another browser to do so.

QUESTION: what security setting do I need to change when trying to submit input to such sites?

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, DuckDuckGo PE, Disconnect, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block content.

Firefox shows a purple shield instead of a gray shield at the left end of the location/address bar in case Enhanced Tracking Protection is blocking content. You can click shield icon for more detail and possibly disable the protection. You can check the Web Console for messages about blocked content.


Make sure you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode (Always use Private Browsing mode; Never Remember History).

  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
  • remove checkmark: [ ] "Always use Private Browsing mode"

Thanks tor the suggestions but add-ons are not the issue. After posting the product reviews I needed to get done in another browser, I decided that maybe a look at Firefox about:config settings would be worth a look. There I found an entry, adblock that was set to "True".

I don't like messing about in about:config unless I have to. And I recall a time when toggling adblock could be done from a control in either settings, a toolbar or menu. I believe it would be in users' interest to once again unhide the adblock toggle so it can be used without having to dig through "about:config" settings.

Extensions can no longer store data or settings in about:config, so this is likely used internally by Firefox and should not be touched (probably about migrating storage data).

Messages from websites about an ad-blocker being detected are usually caused by Firefox Enhanced Tracking Protection blocking content like I posted above.
