How can I keep the menu bar showing ALL the time instead of hovering the mice on top of it to get it to show? What were they (UBUNTU) thinking ???

I prefer to see the menu bar at the top of the screen of whatever program I am using instead of a repetition of the title of the page that I am on. I know I can get the menu bar by hovering the mouse at the very top but it is a little annoying. If the trade off was more screen space, then get rid of the damn title of the program or web page that I am on. OR give me the option to choose. Keep it simple stupid. Thanks.

In case Ubuntu installed some extensions by default, you can try to disable those.

It is a Ubuntu problem, not Firefox, as it happens with all apps.

cor-el is right: Ubuntu installs its own tweaks, such as xul-ext-ubufox. I don't have Unity and associated problems, but there are 3 obvious solutions that may help:

  1. Try to toggle "ui.use_unity_menubar" variable in config.
  2. Try to disable "Ubuntu Firefox Modifications" plugin.
  3. Go for the root of this problem and try to use some window manager designed as actually usable rather than as Apple fanboys' wet dream. For example, XFCE (install xubuntu-desktop package, choose "Xubuntu session" at your next login). ;]
