Starting january 10th or so, all the firefox users in my building started get unexpected crashes when visiting many web pages.

It still occurs in safe mode and after a fresh install of 9.0.1.

The only common thing i can think of is a firewall issue.

To help you narrow things, this page crashes in safe mode and with plugins: http://digg.com/newsbar/topnews/watch_a_moron_destroy_his_lamborghini_in_a_street_race

... but doesn't crash at all if javascript is disabled.

I narrowed this down to Firefox crashes when you go to a page that has Flash on it from within our building. I disabled Flash 11.1.102.55 and now all is right with the world... except no Flash.

So i'm looking for something more on the Flash problem

Your system details list shows that you have an outdated graphics display driver that needs to be updated. See:

The system details are incorrect in stating that my graphics driver needs updated to version 6.14.10.5218.

It says and i verified that i am on the Intel 6.14.10.5016 driver.

According to http://downloadcenter.intel.com/, the 6.14.10.5016 driver is the current driver for my chipset and OS.

The 6.14.10.5218 driver is the latest driver if you are using the mobile (e.g. Lenovo laptop) version of the Intel 965 chipset, it is not the current version if you are using the desktop (e.g. HP tower) version of the Intel 965 chipset.

I have now noticed that this also occurs when clicking on links to PDF files both in safe mode and with the Acrobat plugin loaded. It also occurs on files that are on servers within our corporate firewall seemingly eliminating the firewall as the source of trouble. It even crashes when attempting to load a PDF from my desktop using File | Open File from the menu both in safe mode and with add-ons.

These latest revelations now seem to point to a corporate pushed software update that somehow is running afoul of Firefox. Perhaps an antivirus update. I wonder if McAfee wrote some hack to load itself into a Firefox instance dynamically since Firefox blocked their add-on.

Update: I renamed firefox.exe to something else and guess what?.. no more crashes.
