I have two computers (Desktop and Laptop) I am running Thunderbird 68 on the Desktop and recently updated the laptop to Thunderbird 78. Until the update I was able to download or synchronise my gmail IMAP account to both computers with no problems.

Now I can only download or synchronise the Gmail IMAP to only one computer, if the email download/synchronise to the Desktop I cannot download/synchronise to the laptop. And visa/versa. I have set it to leave the email on the server on both machines. Fix the authentication problem.

What other information does anyone need to answer.

Regards

Which Authentication Method are you using?

Hi Stans,

My setup is Port: 993 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication Method: OAuth2 STMP:settings Port: 465 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication Method: OAuth2

"Keep Messages in all folders for this account on this computer" is unchecked.

I had to change “security.tls.version.min” to 1 on both computers and “security.tls.version.enable-deprecated” to True on the computer running V78.

That's not needed for Gmail. You probably have another account that needs those changes, because even the server settings that you posted initially were completely wrong for Gmail, before you modified your post, which makes me wonder where you got those initial settings from.

Hi Stans, "'I had to change “security.tls.version.min” to 1 on both computers and “security.tls.version.enable-deprecated” to True on the computer running V78. - That is to do with my ISP provider recommendations for POP3. They are not

up to date with their encryption protocols.

The initial settings actually came from Thunderdbird when you set the Connection Security to "STARTTLS".

I now upgraded both computers to Thunderbird V78.5.1. I am going to remove all Gmail accounts and re-connect them. But first some more research on Thunderbird as there so many more options now.

Hi Stans,

The problem seems to be fixed, I have 3 email accounts in Thunderbird, 1 x POP3(Main email account with my ISP ) and 2 x IMAP(my Gmail Accounts). I was able to in Version 68 to use a message filter to Move all my GMail emails to the Inbox of my POP3 account.

In Version 78 I had setup the same situation - Move all GMail emails to the POP3 Inbox. when I checked the Gmail account, there was no Messages left in the Inbox on the GMail Server.

On an off chance I change the the message filter to Copy to POP3 Inbox. When I then checked the GMail Server The message was still in the inbox.

I am now aware that If I use POP3 for all my GMail account I can nominate which folder the emails are to be located in.

Do you know of a better way to have the setup I am looking for.

What setup are you looking for exactly?

The setup I hoping to achieve was that all 3 email accounts( 1 x POP3 and the 2 x GMail ) end up in the same inbox in Thunderbird.

Then all my message filters can run on the one Inbox. As I said before I had it in Version 68 and worked well, However once I upgraded to Version 78 things went awry.

My wife is not very computer literate, so I have to make everything very automated. At the end of the day as long as all emails are sorted into their folders and sub-folders, so my wife can quickly find any email.

There are two options:

1. Use a Global Inbox as explained here Unify your POP email accounts with a global inbox

2. Configure server-side forwarding on the two Gmail accounts. This is the way I would go, because the forwarding takes place on the server's end instead of the client's (Thunderbird) end. All you have to do is log in to the Gmail account then add the address to which incoming messages should be forwarded. This way, you only have one account to setup and work with in Thunderbird, while the Gmail server takes care of the forwarding.

Hi Stans,

I have set up using server-side forwarding on the two Gmail accounts. On the couple tests I did everything seems to working fine now.

Thank you for your help.
