On-screen text is fuzzy, like old-style dot-matrix printers; it's giving me a headache:( - what should I do?

I've just - today - started using Firefox, and the text I see on the screen is fuzzy, like in old-style join-the-dots dot matrix printers. I'd like to stick with Firefox, not least because I want (need!) to use the spell-check facility. But the text resolution is much worse than I'm used to with IE8:(. What can I do?

You can enable ClearType system wide for all programs to make other programs like Firefox use it.

XP: Control Panel > Display > Appearance > Effects: "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts"
