I decided to clean up my password file and get rid of hundreds of logins that were no longer active.

I exported the passwords to logins.csv and Removed all passwords from Lockwise. Then I imported the CSV file into a spreadsheet and edited the file, and exported a new copy of logins.csv.

Since FF Lockwise would not allow import from csv files, I imported the csv file into Chrome, then I opened FF and Imported passwords from Chrome. This was successful, with a total of 592 passwords imported.

But every time I close FF the next time I open it, all passwords are gone. The logins.json file and the logins-backup.json file are in the profiles folder C:\Users\Jerry\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\04bmixuw.default.

I turned off SYNC but this didn't help; I turned SYNC back ON but it didn't help either.

This is now driving me crazy. Can anyone explain how to stop this insanity?

FYI I tried to upload images but the Upload Image feature never worked. Little circle kept spinning.

See the note at the bottom of this article about how to enable import CSV in Lockwise via the about:config page.

Cor-El,

The problem is not that I cannot import logins, the problem is that every time I open FF I have to import the logins again. Whatever I import from Chrome does not "stick". I don't know how to make FF keep the imported logins.

If I import from a data file, will FF keep the logins?

It is possible that there is a problem with logins.json and key4.db and Firefox isn't able to save the logins to the profile folder. You can try to rename/remove logins.json and key4.db and let Firefox create new files to see if that works.

You can use the button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page (Root directory).

I renamed key4.db and opened FF. No logins were available. I had to import again from Chrome.

Apparently I destroyed FF entirely. I may have to just forget FF and move to Chrome. I'd rather avoid that because I don't trust Google at all.

However I can't go on like this.

Someone somewhere must know what's going on here.

PLEASE HELP

If the exported CSV file is valid then you should be able to import this file in Firefox. If you do not keep the imported logins then theht be a problem with logins.json and key4.db. If you renname these two files then Firefox should create new files and you should be able to import a CSV file and keep the imported logins. Did you try to import the original, unedited, CSV file ?

Did you make to only remove full lines when editing the file ? Can you open the edited CSV file in Google Chrome ?

You can create a new profile as a quick test to see if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
