Can I set Firefox to only load my pinned apps on startup (with no other tabs)?

I want to use firefox as a shell for one website, so it only loads that site without other tabs or homepages. This website is a search engine I use to do research, so many tabs end up open. By pinning the original, I will have more space for active tabs, and can keep the search engine small.

You can use "Show a blank page" as the startup setting.

But then I have to close the blank tab before I start working. Is there any way to just load the "app"?

No. Firefox will always load at least one regular tab. That is either the home page or a blank page.
