I just upgraded firefox to version 29 and the dropdown menu in the upper left corner is gone. I can't find the options menu. I can search history, but I can't find the option to restore previous session. Ctrl+shift+t works to open tabs in the current session but it will not restore my previous session.

Hi thereaverofdarkness, first I would like to thank you for using Firefox and for keeping it up to date. As you know a lot has changed in Firefox 29. To restore a previous session you will click on the icon that replaced the Firefox button. It is the icon with three horizontal lines near the top right. After you do that you will click on history. Once you do that you will click restore previous session.

Firefox 29 and later versions have the Australis interface that looks different than the user interface in Firefox 28 and older versions.

  • With the Australis interface the orange Firefox menu button has been replaced by the three bar Menu button at the far right end of the Navigation Toolbar
A consequence of this new menu button is that you no longer can hide the Navigation Toolbar
  • There is a star like button to the right end of the search bar on the Navigation Toolbar to bookmark the current web page and a "Show your bookmarks" button next to it to open the Bookmarks in a drop down menu
  • It is still possible to have the menu bar visible via the right-click context menu on the toolbars to have menus like the the Bookmarks menu
  • Press the F10 key or tap the Alt key to bring up the hidden Menu bar.

Did you look at the drop-down list of the 3-bar Firefox menu button?

There you should have an History button with a History > Restore Previous Session and Recently Closed Tabs/windows.

I am experiencing the same problem and the option is greyed out. I also have it set to open at my last session which is not working either.

If you have more then one tab open when Firefox closes. Upon starting Firefox should have a list of the tabs that were open and ask if you would like to restore. Otherwise you need to do what is stated above. I don't know if it will work if you shutdown your computer.

None of the advise give worked through multiple restarts etc. Then suddenly this morning I opened FF and yesterday's tabs were there. No clue why but it works...

Hooray! If nothing above worked for you, I don't know what happened. I know a new update 29.0.1 came out. Perhaps what you had was widespread. I don't know, it works now and that is all that is important.
