I am having intermittent problems with inbound email messages showing only the "Subject" and everything else blank.

This only happens with emails from known persons or groups, and does not seem to happen with spam mail, or advertising and news email.

My email folder is nearing 200GB. Could this be the problem ? I also have an aging laptop, would moving my email to a new machine with better processing power fix this....???

Hoping someone else has seen this issue and can help.

Thank you !

Thunderbird suddenly fails to sign in using webmail username / password Oct. 1, 2024

Hi, Thunderbird was working fine in the morning, but later in the day, it suddenly stopped downloading messages from my Hotmail inbox and asked for my password again. When I entered my password, I got the following error message:

"Sending of password for user mazyarm@hotmail.com did not succeed. Mail server pop-mail.outlook.com responded: Authentication failure: unknown user name or bad password."

Thunderbird won't sign in to check emails. I also get the message:

"Login to server pop-mail.outlook.com with username mazyarm@hotmail.com failed."

And those are the messages I now get whenever I click on the Get Messages button. However, I am still able to access my Hotmail account directly using the Firefox web browser, so I know that my username and password are not the problem.

Does anyone know what's going on? How do I solve this problem? Thank you, Maz

Changing PC - need to export Thunderbird data and settings on old PC for import on new PC. Have very large data file which has two current gmail accounts which I do want to bring over and one defunct Wanadoo account which I don't want to bring over (possible problem as it was my original main account on my first Thunderbird use).

Version 128.5.2esr / Mac OS 15.2 I've been using Thunderbird since 2006 and never had this problem before. The folders in one of my three accounts (iCloud) have suddenly become very unstable and disappear. I can restore them by checking the individual folders in Subscribe. They're OK at the moment, but I've had to restore them twice in the past couple of hours.

Five people at our company have a representative email address that can receive emails from each other, and each person also has a personal email address that they set up to receive emails from.

Emails received at the representative email address are received in the inbox of each of the five people.

However, on four PCs, only two weeks' worth of emails received at the representative email address are saved.

Emails from two weeks ago are automatically deleted.

They are not even in the trash.

All emails received at personal email addresses, even those from two weeks ago, remain there.

Also, on one PC, all emails received at the representative email address and those from two weeks ago remain there.

All PCs were set up on the same day and I think they have the same settings, so I'm wondering why this is happening.

I would appreciate it if you could tell me a solution.

Thank you in advance.

Every time I open Thunderbird Portable, it says "installing new updates"--even if I close it and re-open it 3 times in a row and even after using Help->About->Restart. Current version: 128.5.2esr (64-bit) "Nebula" and it says "Thunderbird is up to date. You are currently on the esr update channel."

Is there a way to get it to stop updating when it is already up to date?

Just installed latest Thunderbird version 128.5.2. Previously using a very old 78.5 version for many years. I now have a row of buttons on the toolbar at the very top. The first button is "Get Messages." When I first open Thunderbird and click that button, nothing happens. If I right click that button I see two options. One is to "Get All New Messages" and the other is the name of my only account. If I click the "Get All New Messages" option, it still does not work. If I click the name of my account, it proceeds to asks for my password and look for new messages. There is also a small button that looks like a cloud with a down arrow below Menu Bar under the word File. That is also used to Get Messages. When I click that button after first opening Thunderbird, it works. It asks for my password and looks for new messages. The odd thing is this. After I get it to work the first time and I type in my password and it look for new messages, then the "Get Messages" button at the top that did not work at first now works. So when first open Thunderbird that button does not work to do the first check for new mail. After using the cloud icon the do the first check when first opening Thunderbird, then the larger button at the top works. Anyone know why it works this way? Thanks, Tim
