Clearing browsing data does not clear everything

I have made changes to my website in Wordpress. Specifically, I have changed a coupe of images. Then I CTRL/SHIFT/DEL to clear the cache, reload the page and the old image is still showing. Load the same page in Chrome, and the new image is there, so I know there's nothing wrong in Wordpress. I've used Firefox Refresh and the image is still the old one. I've even deleted the old image completely from Workpress and yet, it still appears in Firefox, but not in Chrome. Please, can anyone tell me how to REALLY clear the cache in Firefox. This problem has come up before, so I know I can't be the only person on the planet suffering with it. Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you

Hi rachelsabout, the "Clear Recent History" dialog called up using Ctrl+Shift+Delete has a time range control. When you cleared the cache, did you set the time range to "Everything"? Be sure to expand the details and uncheck the box for categories you want to keep, for example, everything other than Cache.

If Firefox still doesn't detect the new image, is it possible that there is some other cache in the path? For example, do you use any caching plugins in WordPress, or use CloudFlare or other CDN on your hosting account? It would be strange that a request from Firefox would pass through such a cache but that the request from Chrome would not; I'm not sure how that would be possible...

One other thought: in case your blog uses a responsive theme (i.e., a layout that adapts to screen resolution), try zooming out in Firefox (hold down Ctrl and press - a couple) times, then reload the page using Ctrl+Shift+r to bypass cache. This should compensate for Firefox having a higher zoom level by default than Chrome, and improve the odds of getting identical pages.

Options--->Privacy.

Under the History part, click clear recent history. Check cache and Offline Website data and clear it. Be careful as it will clear your other websites' offline data as well.

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
