If possible with errors in your Video Card Drivers or so old do not support it please reinstall or update if at all possible :

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Pkshadow and FredMcd - thank you for our prompt responses. Firefox in safe mode had the same problem. The audio works for videos played in my Chrome browser and in VLC Media Player. I watched a GoToMeeting webinar today and the audio worked. The problem is only with Firefox 60.0.1.

Should I roll Firefox back to the previous version?

Hi tom33pt, if you see Firefox sending audio to Windows in the mixer, but you do not see corresponding activity on the first slider (speakers or other output device), it could indicate that Firefox has lost track of the current output device and is sending audio to a previously used device (e.g., headphones). There might be a drop-down on the first column in the mixer to view the volume for additional output devices.

Sometimes, perhaps if the other device was used by Firefox in a previous session and then disconnected while Firefox was closed, Firefox doesn't detect the currently available device(s) correctly. I can't recall if there is a quick fix for this; some users have mentioned reconnecting and then re-disconnecting the other device, while Firefox is running, as a workaround.

Hi jscher2000. You are correct that there is no activity in the first slider with Firefox, but there is with VLC Media Player and Chrome. I plugged in my headphone and got the same results, i.e. no sound with Firefox but sound with VLC and Chrome. There's no drop-down for additional output devices, and I've used no devices except my speakers and headphones. What other devices might there be?

Unfortunately, I only know about what I posted from other users' comments. I'm not much of an audio user myself.
