Is there an easy kind of "parental controls" similar to that which one uses on cable tv to block content, but for the internet?
Isn't there an easier way to apply parental controls to the internet, something similar to the way I block content on my cable tv?
This happened
Every time Firefox opened
== everytime I browse, especially images, the filters never work. Even strict filtering lets through soft-porn types of images. I want my kids to be able to surf safely.

There are quite a few options available, your best choice would probably be third-party parental control software that works with all browsers.
For details on some options available see Parental controls - MozillaZine Knowledge Base
