I seem to have a problem with Mozilla for Android, namely, that it will not download anything. I can click on downloads and it seems to go through the motions but nothing appears in 'downloads'. The problem started happening when I downloaded, installed and then removed another well known browser beggining with the letter 'O' :-; Unfortunately this browser messes with the stock Android download manager.

I'm running on a Google Nexus 7 with Android 4.3. Fortunately I can still download with the default Chrome browser. The problem has also ocurred on my Samsung SIII Mini which runs Android 4.1.2 so its not unique to the Nexus tablet. The problem is still ocurring even after a factory reset on the tablet!

See

and try firefox nightly, does downloading work now?

Thanks, but there seems to be no reference to download issues here.

I will give the nightly release a try though.

In the meantime, does Firefox mobile for Android have a setting for the download folder? I figured if I set it to a directory that I create myself and therefore know exists this might help to determine whether its a filesystem issue. Opera seems to have done something to the file system or file associations that is obviously not fixed by a factory reset.

Sorry, not that easy.

Firefox has been re-installed at least 3 times already.

If you are referring to re-installing Opera then I've done that a couple of times already as well but to no avail.

If you are referring to re-installing Android, I'm not sure how I would go about doing that and doing so would probably void the Google/Asus warranty.

In the meantime, I stumbled across a phone number for Google Play support. As I'm now convinced that this is an Android Operating system issue caused by the Opera app that I downloaded from Google play, I gave them a call. There is apparently another way to do a factory reset by using Recovery Mode and they have sent me the procedure which I will try later.

Yes, enter about:config and look for browser.download.lastDir

Change the value to the location you want files to be saved.

Thanks, couldn't find the value already present so created it. Also had a play with various settings including setting browser.download.folderList to 2 and browser.download.useDownloadDir to false and browser.download.useDownloadDir to true. Unfortunately none of these helped. Firefox still refuses to download anything.

Did a full factory reset by rebooting the tablet into Recovery mode yesterday. Firefox will now download soe formates but not others.

Factory reset did not actually fix the issue.

However, I discovered something quite weird. When I try to download something, although it appears that nothing happens, FF puts an entry in History.

If I now go to history and tap on the entry for the download, FF starts downloading the file and then automatically presents me with the option to open in Aldiko or PDF viewer as before!

Its a pity it doesn't work on the first attempt - but at least I have a workaround!
