Firefox 63.0.3 Windows 7 Home Premium

When I opened Firefox this morning, it stated that there was a new version available so I clicked the box.

The browser closed, it went through the motions, and reopened the browser.

I checked the version and it still showed 63.0.3, with the option to update, so I rebooted the computer, reopened the browser, and it still shows 63.0.3 with the option to update.

I am sure that others have already posted about this but what is the fix?

Can you download the new version from www.getfirefox.com, and install it? That should override any issues with the updater

PopUp Update Box doesn't work. I'm on 61.0.2. I clicked on the button to Update to 64.0, but it came back as 'Failed'. Then the Button changes to 'Restart to Update FireFox'. I clicked on that and when FF reloaded, it's still the old version.

If I download the new version at the site and 'Run' the Update, will it run automatically the same way as the GUI Box and do so without me having to uninstall the old version?

I checked in About:Config and the 'App' Update link there gives me a 404 Error.

Links in about:config contain parameters between percentage characters (e.g. %LOCALE% and %PRODUCT%) that need to be resolved, so you can't open such a link directly. The Browser Console shows a request with the actual URL.

Let’s do a full clean re-install;

Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}

Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Note: Check Both Folders

Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac

Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux

If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Look for, and remove any Mozilla or Firefox program folders. Do not remove the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.

Do Not remove any profile folders.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Must I do this? Downloading and letting it do it's own thing won't work? Can I enter a working URL in the About:Config > App.Update...?

I'm hoping to avoid the 'Clean Re-Install', but I Bookmarked your post, in case I gotta dooz it. (Grin)

Thanks.

Firefox comes in two or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.

If you remove the Firefox folder, the user profiles would not be affected.

My C:\Program Files has no Mozilla Folder. I'm running 64-Bit, but my Mozilla is the 86 Folder. Is that right or is that opposite? I did run 32-Bit FF ages ago.

The attachments I posted earlier shows my Folder locations of Mozilla.

  • Ok, I get it now. Then I run/install the new downloaded version I have (stored elsewhere) and everything's back to normal with all my 'Profile' stuff intact?
  • Before I do that, I deleted the URL location in About:Config hoping FF fills that back in. If not, is there URL I can Copy-n-Paste in there besides the one it puts back in there while in About:Config?

I was the original poster and my issue was resolved but 'PJ' has hijacked my posting so I keep receiving email notifications regarding this post.

Is there an option to stop receiving notifications about this thread?

Sorry about that. I'm so use to jumping in on a Thread dealing with the same problem/subject matter from various forums over the decades. Indeed, the 'Forum Guidelines' here on Mozilla say to start a new Thread.

I'll let a moderator figure-out what do from here.
