Ha! Not sure what I did exactly, but fooled around moving things and now the web address bar is adjustable and all is good! I think there was a "flexible space" installed on default which caused me problems.

Thanks!!!

Can you attach a screenshot?

You can place the mouse pointer between the location bar and the search bar in normal mode (i.e. not in customize mode) to get a resize pointer that you can drag left or right to change the relative width of both bars (the total length doesn't change). This only works if the two bar are positioned next to each other with no other elements in between them.

If this doesn't work then try to click Restore Defaults on the Customize palette page.

Thanks! There is no resize pointer. The resize works just fine on my other laptop. I restored to defaults, but still no resize. Search is moved to >>

how do i shorten space address bar takes up?

Hello GLENNCZ,

When you add the search bar to the toolbar, the address bar will automatically be shortened.

See : Options => Search => "Add search bar in toolbar"

Instead of using the search bar you can also search the web right from the address bar - would that be an option for you ?

Note that you need to place the search bar right next to the location bar to make add the resizer (#urlbar-search-splitter) in between them and to make it possible to adjust their relative sizes.

It works both ways ("search bar <-> location bar" and "location bar <-> search bar"):

 var ibefore = null;
 if (urlbar && searchbar) {
   if (urlbar.nextElementSibling == searchbar) {
     ibefore = searchbar;
   } else if (searchbar.nextElementSibling == urlbar) {
     ibefore = urlbar;
   }
 }

I have a similar problem -- the address seems to be set to occupy almost the entire toolbar, covering useful tools. I am trying to find a way to define its length so I can have access to the tools I use often. See screenshots. How can I limit its length?

Hi gyaltnnh, it appears you are using rules in a userChrome.css file to modify the main toolbar. (Perhaps an evolution of the rules from https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1184828?) Possibly that is contributing to the overflow problem if Firefox computes sizes before those changes take effect.

So you will need an additional rules for the length of the address bar, perhaps setting the maximum width (max-width). Since that is very different from the original topic of this thread, could you start a new one, and share your system info there. This link will get you started:

https://support.mozilla.org/questions/new/desktop/customize

I started the new thread as you asked, but now I can't find it to read the replies. I've searched for address bar topics, my user name, but it remains elusive. ??
