I just upgraded to the latest version of Firefox and it has been a few versions since I did that. An important feature that I use in my work is now gone! I need to be able to work my way through 3-4 screens on our website and then backtrack to the first screen to enter a different search term, go through 3-4 screens, backtrack to the first screen for a new search term, etc. Because of how our system is set up it's not possible for me to simply bookmark the first screen - I need to go back to it as it was, over and over.

Help, I can't do this now! Used to be I could pull down a drop-down "history" from the back button, but that is no longer possible. The actual history list, when I go to it from the menu, doesn't list the history for just the page I'm on for some reason, and doesn't give me the link to the screen I need to get back to.

This is very very frustrating - looks like a feature was deleted, and I need that feature to do my work effectively. Can you help me by re-adding this back to the next version of Firefox or letting me know how I can go back to the previous version so I can use this feature? Please - thanks.

The arrow to open the tab history of the Back and Forward buttons has been removed in Firefox 4 and later.

Use one of these methods to open the tab history list:

  • Right click on the Back or Forward button
  • Hold down the left mouse button on the enabled Back or Forward button until the list opens

You can look at this extension:

This seems to be related to my problem. I have an app tab for gmail that used to take me to the logon screen for my email. When I logoff from gmail I'm no longer taken to the logon screen that I had bookmarked. I can get there by using the work around suggested above by cor-el. This is frustrating and not as elegant as being able to maintain an app tab to logon to my email account.

I would like to think this feature would be returned in subsequent releases. Thank you.

Honestly this is one of those additions to the update that irritated me so much that I'm tempted to roll back to the previous version. Not only does this version rearrange nearly everything I actually liked about Firefox, but it also makes it massively less appealing because of things like this being deliberately dropped off. Then to have to download yet ANOTHER add-on (compromising security even further) to get something that, until it was messed with, worked perfectly fine!
