Thank you. I can report that the problem has been fixed, with the following clarifications.

First, I am running Norton Internet Security (NIS), not Norton 360. However, the suites are very similar, so it is not surprising that an incompatibility with FF 9 Betas 1, 2 and 3 indeed would affect both Symantec suites.

Second, I recommend solving the situation this way:

A. Launch FF 8 (NOT the Beta), go into Tools --> Add-Ons and *disable* (do NOT remove) Norton Toolbar. Also, do not disable nor remove the other Norton entries, just the Toolbar. You may then have to relaunch FF (the program will prompt you if you indeed have to relaunch).

B. Then exit out of FF 8 and install FF 9 Beta. Everything should work just fine now.

C. When Norton releases versions of NIS/360 that are compatible with FF 9, you then will be able to go into Tools --> Add-Ons and re-enable Norton Toolbar.

NB: By disabling Norton Toolbar -- rather than removing and uninstalling it -- you will easily be able to re-enable it when a Symantec releases a version of Norton NIS/360 that is compatible with FF 9.  :)

The first 3 of your crash reports (the reference for the 4th is incomplete) point to a bug already reported. The crash is related to Windows 7 using Add-on Compatibility Reporter to make the Norton 360 toolbar work:

  • Norton 360 2011 extension 2011.7.3.6 (with or without ACR) OR
  • Norton 360 2012 extension 2012.2.1.6 (with or without ACR)

Your crash reports (on the "Details" tab, scroll down to "Related bugs"):

Norton typically does not issue updates for beta versions of Firefox, but does issue updates (recently) on the same day that Firefox releases a new publicly-released FINAL (RELEASE) version. There is mention of a beta version of Norton in the bug report that indicates compatibility with Firefox 9, but does not mention whether the Norton beta causes Firefox 9beta to crash.
