Firefox window frequently shrinks from full screen to half screen if I close a tab. I am running the current Firefox version, 44.0.2, in Windows 10. I see no consistent pattern as to number of tabs open or websites visited. It has occurred in safe mode as well as in normal operation with a small number of add-ons.

Just to clarify, which of these is the state you're losing when closing a tab:

  • Maximized: Firefox window is borderless but the Windows Taskbar still shows
  • Firefox full screen: no toolbar area, Windows Taskbar hidden; the F11 key switches between regular views such as maximized and "restored"/"resizable" and full screen
  • Page full screen: usually invoked by a button on a video player, but pages can full screen Firefox using a script, and the Esc key exits this kind of full screen

Try to set dom.disable_window_open_feature.resizable to false on the about:config page.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Thanks, Cor-el. I have just made the suggested change. "Try to set dom.disable_window_open_feature.resizable to false on the about:config page." I will wait to see if this works.

Jscher 2000: to clarify, the Firefox window filled the screen, except for the Windows taskbar at the bottom. The Firefox menu, tabs, and toolbar were showing. The bookmarks were showing on the left side of the window.
