The up and down arrow won't make the page go up and down in gmail. It will with full page up and down.

You may have switched on caret browsing.

You can press press F7 (on Mac: fn + F7) to toggle caret browsing on/off.

Nope that wasn't it. My friend says I just have to restart it.

I have tried all the suggested fixes in this thread, none worked.

I also noticed that my cursor sits inside the frames of the email with a blinking "|" like it is edit mode even though I am not editing the page.

This only occurred AFTER an update to firefox 5.0.

So is anyone working on this at all?

This is even more aggravating than Google search pages which jump from paragraph to paragraph when you press the down arrow key instead of scrolling.

My version is 3.6.18, so that's not it either.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

In Firefox 4 and later Safe mode disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

It's a gmail problem and nothing to do with Firefox. The same thing happens (or doesn't happen) in Chrome and IE.

Ok..... so how do you fix it?
