Emails got deleted by compacting
I set up a new IMAP account...it was downloading like 6,000 of my emails so I went into my settings and checked the delete all but the most recent 2000. Then I clicked compact inbox folder. Somehow I have lost all my emails from the past 3 years lol. I've tried trouble shooting and re creating my account and same error. First email pops up is from 2011 (its 2014). BAD NEWS. When I go to my normal site for email (cox) they're gone there too!!! Someone please help me! I never clicked a "delete" button so I feel they are somewhere on my computer I just need to restore them to account. Side note: when I recreate my account I never let the upload finish because it starts at 2011 and goes back to 2009...I need it to go the other way...please please help

Did you do that while Thunderbird was still downloading messages? If so, then it's very likely that something went wrong. Do you see any nstmp files in your profile under the account folder?
Using Windows Explorer can you provide a screenshot of your account folder in the Thunderbird profile with all files in it? http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-create-screenshot-my-problem

I suppose Cox is your IMAP account? Then that's the way IMAP works. Thunderbird is a mirror of what's on the server, and vice versa.

I don't understand what you mean with 'upload'.
