When do you see links with these modifications?

It seems that very few people would be using the Enterprise version of Office365 that makes these link modifications, but if someone who did use it were to forward an affected message or document to you, you might them receive those modified links.

I see these when I open a bookmark and also when I use link in my email"thunderbird". I have nothing listed under that link support.office.com*.

I see these when I open a bookmark...

That's really strange. If you right-click the bookmark and check Properties, I assume the Location is a direct link, so this is a completely unexpected diversion. Can you give an example of a Location that has this issue so volunteers can see whether it is on the server side or specific to your Firefox?

When you hover your mouse over the link, does Thunderbird show you whether it is a direct link or is it already modified to go through Microsoft's filter?

I may not have scene the nam01 or the eur01 in the bookmarks ,but they act like they have the same problem and open very slow "sometimes". Hovering over link showed they were already modified to go through the Microsoft filter.

Hmm, okay, there are a lot of reasons a particular site might open slowly.

Were those messages sent by users of Microsoft mail services? I'm not sure you can avoid the links in that case. You might check with the senders on whether they are aware of this issue.

Unfortunately it appears every one I click on has the problem in the emails. As for the bookmarks the URL loads and sits for almost 15 seconds as the one firefox jumps up to 30% of my CPU use, then the two dots start flashing and then it finishes loading. Using any of the internal links on all those sites it has no problem.

For the bookmarks, could you check these things:

Connection Settings

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

Firefox 56-58: In the search box at the top of the page on the right side, type proxy and Firefox should filter to the "Settings" button, which you can click.

Firefox 38-55: In the left column, click Advanced. Then on the right side, with the "Network" mini-tab active, click the "Settings" button.

In All Versions: The default of "Use system proxy settings" piggybacks on your Windows/IE "LAN" setting. "Auto-detect" can lead to a flaky connection. You may want to try "No proxy".

Any difference?

Extensions

Could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? In Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

Safe start had no change. Seems I have to reload my firefox a lot more than usual to correct this and no problem with in google chrome!
