I would not think of it as Advanced as is just The Search Bar with Twitter.

Please go to Where in the above it says Hide : Please go to Search and find Twitter in the Column and Delete it. Then go to the bottom of the list and Restore Defaults. Restart Firefox

If still not working as no Extension information was provided please :

Try Firefox Safe Mode to TEST & see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

SafeMode-Fx35

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

Hi there,

Thanks but please see here what I am talking about https://twitter.com/search-advanced

As you can see, Twitter Advanced Search is a SPECIFIC ability that allows all manner of search SPECIFIC to Twitter. It has nothing to do with searching the web.

I've tested and I have no issues.

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. (Firefox 57 and above) Click the Library button 57 library icon and choose History.
(Click the menu button New Fx Menu and choose History in older Firefox versions.)
  2. In the History menu, choose "Clear Recent History...".
  3. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  4. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  5. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  6. Now click the "Clear Now" button.

Further information can be found in the Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

What happens -- do you just get a blank page?

Here's an example advanced search I tried (logged out because I forgot my password again):

"xiao long bao" near:"san francisco" within:15mi since:2018-01-01 until:2018-07-14

Does that load for you?

In another thread, a user got stuck on a "redirect" page due to a changed setting:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste refer and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If the network.http.sendRefererHeader preference is bolded and "modified" or "user set" to 0, try changing it to 1 or the default value of 2

  • 0 => never send the referring page URL (the URL of the page with the link you're following)
  • 1 => send the referring page URL when you click a link/button
  • 2 => send the referring page URL when you click a link/button AND when retrieving embedded images into the page (default)

(4) If you want to reduce how much cross-site referring page information you share, you can double-click the network.http.referer.XOriginPolicy preference and enter the desired value:

  • 0 => no restrictions (default -- send to any)
  • 1 => base domain must match (send from a.example.com to b.example.com but not to othersite.com)
  • 2 => full host name must match (only b.example.com to b.example.com)

jscher2000 hi,

What happens is when I use Advanced Search to locate something I only get a certain range of results, a small time frame's worth. This happens ONLY in Firefox and not in any other browser. It is baffling and one of those problems that vexes a person.

Thanks for your time.

Show us the search screenshot and so others can try to duplicate the error with their twitter search. As of now were just grabbing for straws since there is nothing to compare to.

You probably noticed that Twitter loads a few results at a time, and as you scroll down, it requests more in the background. It sounds as though that follow-on background request is not working correctly in your Firefox. However, it's difficult to figure out exactly why.

Among the other things you tried to sort out this problem, did you include:

Double-check content blockers: Firefox's Tracking Protection feature and extensions that counter ads and tracking may break websites that weren't built to operate normally without the blocked components.

Do you see a shield icon toward the left end of the address bar, near the lock icon? More info on managing the Tracking Protection feature in this article: What happened to Tracking Protection?.

Extensions such as Adblock Plus, Blur, Disconnect, Ghostery, NoScript, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin or uMatrix should provide toolbar buttons to manage blocked content in a page. There may or may not be a number on the icon indicating the number of blocked items; you may need to click the button to see what's going on and test whether you need to make an exception for this site.

Testing in Firefox's Safe Mode: In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.)

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

You could check for error messages in Firefox's Web Console. You can open the Web Console in the lower part of the tab using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Web Developer > Web Console
  • (menu bar) Tools > Web Developer > Web Console
  • (Mac) Command+Option/Alt+k

Then reload the page in the upper part of the tab and watch for error or security messages. (The lines with blue triangles generally are not significant unless you suspect a style rule problem.) Anything that sounds like it could be relevant?

Firefox will give me only a small amount of my requested query, so, yes the follow-on request might not be working properly.

I don't use any content blocking extensions, and no extensions at all except for Video DownloadHelper, and that isn't the issue here. I've had it since like forever.

Get this: nothing in terms of settings been changed on my Firefox ever. I've had the same settings for years. The only change has been what Firefox, or Twitter, have done themselves. It used to work perfectly.

It is an odd little error and hard to figure out the precise cause.

WestEnd a screenshot won't give you anything more than what I explained. It is a pretty straightforward: I query advanced search and get back results that are poor. It is due to the browser, or Twitter.

Working again - no reason why. Thanks for the replies.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Remove the Cookies" from websites that cause problems:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
Cookies and Site Data -> Manage Data

"Clear the Cache":

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> Cached Web Content: Clear

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

You can check the Web Console to see if there are messages related to this issue.
