I assume that you mean "popping up" and you want to turn it off ?

Fox New says to make sure that cookies are enabled :

When you're on that site, click on the padlock at the left side of the address bar.

Then click on the little black arrow on the dropdown (next to 'Connection') and then on "More Information", which will take you to "Page Info".

Click on the 'Permissions" tab and scroll down to "Set Cookies". Uncheck "Use Default" and check "Allow".

Then close and restart Firefox.

Hi McCoy, I don't think it's a popup. If you go to foxnews.com, click one link, there will be a banner "Coronavirus Pemdemic" across the top. When you scroll down, that banner stays there. Only Firefox has this issue. Chrome or IE are fine - the banner disappears when scrolling down.

I don't get that banner; there is an article with that name though (which one would expect these days).

But if you get a banner : isn't there a closing X  ? Or something like "Learn more" ?

There is no "X". I am not sure "Banner" is the correct term. It's right above the subject of the article. I just installed FIrefox on Mac Catalina and got the same issue as in Windows 10. If you scroll up and down, that "Banner" keeps dropping down. I wish I can send you a screen shot.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

• hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
• press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
• press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Remove the Cookies" for websites that cause problems:

  Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Data"

"Clear the Cache":

• Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

• switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
• do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

I believe you, but I just don't get anything that even remotely looks like a banner. Like I said : all I see is an article with that name.

But try what cor-el suggested and see if that will help you get rid of it.

Are you logged in to Fox News ?

This is new install and everything is default and fresh. I've been using Chrome but reddit trend notification is annoying so I switch to Firefox. I did clear cache and check the theme as default. Same issue. See attached screenshot. The "banner" is in red circle.

Those are just "hot topics" - you can click on each of them.

I get them too, and when I scroll down, they stay put (i.e. at the top of the page). Same when I use Edge.

Oh, then it's Foxnews bad design. I'll keep Firefox. The more I use it, the more I love it. I'll never go back to the annoying Chrome! I'll start to use Firefox on my iPhone too.

This is named scroll-up-header and it only appears when you scroll up, as soon as you scroll down it will disappear.

You should be able to disable this feature with this code in userContent.css.

It is not that difficult to create userContent.css if you have never used it.

The first step is to open the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" page and find the button to access the profile folder.

You can find this button under the "Application Basics" section as "Profile Folder -> Open Folder". If you click this button then you open the profile folder in the Windows File Explorer. You need to create a folder with the name chrome in this folder (name is all lowercase). In the chrome folder you need to create a plain text file with the name userContent.css (name is case sensitive). In this userContent.css text file you paste the text posted.

In Windows saving the file is usually the only time things get more complicated because Windows can silently add a .txt file extension and you end up with a file named userContent.css.txt. To avoid this you need to make sure to select "All files" in the dialog to save the file in the text editor using "Save File as".

You need to close (Quit/Exit) and restart Firefox when you create or modify the userContent.css file.
