TELUS in canada has Forced me to switch to Gmail. I've spent 10 HOURS trying to get this working beyond frustrated!!

Basically I set up thunderbird with the settings given by telus and the following is occuring.

[Thunderbird]

- Receiving emails thru thunderbird - WORKING - Sending Emails thru thunderbird - NOT WORKING. Shows they are SENT (in thunderbird) but in if I go to Gmail it's not in the SENT folder.

"An error occurred while sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: mtlp000083 cmsmtp ESMTP server not available." when sending email thru thunderbird

[Gmail website]

- I can SEND and COMPOSE/SEND a message and it will receive to thunderbird. Messages composed in gmail will show it's in the SENT folder in gmail.

PLEASE HELP! I've spent over 10 HOURS now doing everything I can. Telus support has not completely stopped helping me as it's not there end.. I have no idea what to do..

I THINK FIXED!!!!!!! I discovered that I was being logged in under my youtube channel email address rather than my telus.net email address.

SEEMS to be working perfectly from thunderbird from what I can tell so far

First, gmail copies sent messages automatically to the Sent Mail folder, so 'Place a copy in' in the Copies & Folders section of Account Settings should be unchecked. Next, right-click the account in the Folder Pane, Subscribe... and check the box for Sent Mail. After making those changes, if not already made, see if sending works properly. The settings in your pictures are correct. If it still doesn't work, disable a VPN if you have one.

Thanks for the reply! Are these settings you mention above in gmail or thunderbird? Thanks

Ok I figured it was for thunderbird. But I cannot figure out the "Next, right-click the account in the Folder Pane, Subscribe... and check the box for Sent Mail. After making those changes, if not already made, see if sending works properly"

The Copies & Folders and subscribe settings are in TB (see pictures).

Thats strange. My thunderbird looks different. It's not set up the same as yours. I have the newest 78.14.0 (32-bit)

I did the folders and copies uncheck part but the subscribe I can't find anywhere..

Attached at all my settings in the Account Settings.

See my 3rd picture of the Folder Pane in the main window. Since your account is IMAP, Subscribe should appear in the right-click menu. Maybe you've hidden the Folder Pane; it's under View/Layout.

Ahhh I see what you mean.. Ok. All are toggled already on.

Still does not seem to be working. If I send a message on thunderbird. For example I send a msg to my own email address. I receive it in thunderbird as normal, but does not show up on either gmail or the SENT folder in gmail..

Sending a message to yourself is not a good test, as gmail doesn't treat messages to oneself the same as sending to different accounts. Also, the relevant folder is Sent Mail, not Sent.

In gmail there is no "sent mail" just "Sent" on my end.

Let's just say I HATE GMAIL!!!!!!! HATE their interface.. It didn't even merge over all my emails. For the entire 2021 only 5 messages were saved..

On thunderbird it shows it at "sent mail" and on gmails set it's "Sent" but both have the same arrow icon so I assume they are the same?

Gmail doesn't have any of the messages that are stored on my computer's Profile and so a TON (1000's) of emails are not being moved to gmail and telus says it was done so I'm trying to just use thunderbird like I did before and save the hassle. But course I can't use it when it won't actually SEND email out when I send it thru thundermail. It WORKS if I send thru gmail's site but then I don't have the rest of the emails.. Just a 13 hour HORRIFIC DAY for me dealing with this whole thing..

Just replied to an email to test it to someone else and still not showing on gmail's "Sent" folder so I am assuming the email is not even going thru since no one so far is replying to emails I send out from thunderbird (which don't show they "sent" on gmail's side)

On the gmail website, there is a Sent folder, but it is the same as the Sent Mail that you subscribe in TB. Don't ask me why, that's just the way it works, as you can confirm by sending messages in TB (not to yourself).

I donno what else to do. All I can say is i'm ready to rip my hair out! I've wasted my ENTIRE DAY dealing with this CRAP and getting no where from telus who migrated this.. nearly a MONTH of important emails never sent only to discover TODAY they were never sent. I had plans today and had to cancel for what should have been an easy fix but I still cannot get emails from thunderbird to SEND out. People I send to are telling me nothing is being received and the "sent" (only folder on gmail as there is no "Sent mail") does not have those emails I send thru thunderbird which indicates that it's true, my emails are NOT being actually sent out..

I'm just BEYOND frustrated.. I've been dealing with this since 8AM this morning and it's now 10PM and still no where closer to fixing this than 14 hours later.

do you think you can stop taking pictures with your camera and use screen capture software. It makes loading them to view much faster for those of us with poor internet services.

This link offers 10 ways for windows 10 and the simplest is probably the snipping tool that comes with windows https://www.businessinsider.com.au/how-to-screenshot-on-windows?r=US&IR=T

The screens look different because sfhowes is using Version 91 and it is heavily customized, but the screen information remains the same.

I did the folders and copies uncheck part but the subscribe I can't find anywhere..

Try the first tab with the Thunderbird three pane view of your mail accounts and mail. (you are on the second in your pictures.)

Do you have cookies enabled in options/preferences? search cook in preferences/options to locate the setting.

Thank you Matt: I will do what you suggested with the screen capture. As far as the subscribe part goes. It's already been determined that isn't an issue. I have them ALL CHECKED (Subscribed)

Here are my cookie settings.

I've asked people and they say the emails are not coming thru. Thanks

btw: these are screen captures so hopefully they worked out better.
