The checkbox for "submit crash reports" always resets to checked when I uncheck it? How to fix?

Recently I upgrade from Firefox 3.5.9 to Firefox 3.6.13. In setting my preference, under options/advanced/system defaults/ I unchecked "submit crash reports". As soon as I leave the dialog, it is reset to checked, whether I close Firefox or if I just leave the dialog and return to it. I would like to know what to do to uncheck this. Since it is an option it should stay as set or unset.

This happens under Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and Windows 7.

Thank you for the reply, but none of those suggestions apply/or work. This is only a single preference that's not being saved. There is not a user.js file, but a prefs.js file and there is not an entry for crash reports on/off in it. These seems like a bug in Firefox, as the checkbox for the "Submit crash report" toggles back on the instant the dialog is closed, then reopened. In other words, just this one option is not saved. Any other options are saved when changed.

That setting is stored in %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\crashreporter.ini

You may have security software that is protecting or locking .ini files if the change doesn't keep.
