Since yesterday, almost every download or upload I attempt in firefox inadvertently stops and the files end up corrupt; images are discolored or filled with scrambled pixels, videos immediately stop loading after only reaching 1 or 2 megabytes, even the re-installation of firefox has become impossible to do because the download keeps resetting before it can reach the installation process. I'm unsure of the problem's overall source as of now, and I want to go through as many solutions before I should just consider backing up my files and going along with a system reboot.

Moreover before installing a fresh copy please perform malware scan

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

Make sure that your security software isn't causing this issue.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
