On XP, I had ver 47. Upgrade to 48 and FF does not load, no errors.

my problem is there in the question above: Win XP, sp3 etc, have been using for many years with FF. I notice it was ver 47, and asked it to upgrade to 48 after that, FF does not work when clicking the icon. Have to download FF installer (ver 43), and that works ok. Again, immediate upgrade to 48 is offered, but I have the same result. There are no errors displayed and there is no attempt by Firefox to start.

Does your CPU support SSE2 instructions?

It is no help asking me about SSE2 instructions. My PC has a Pentium 4 processor, running Windows XP SP3 and all the patches.

If Firefox 48 is unable to work on this PC, it shouldn't allow me to upgrade.

It does SSE2 & SSE3. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_4

Instruction set x86 (i386), x86-64, MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3

There shouldn't be a compatibility issue with WInXP, as far as working. But there is an issue with downloading Firefox 44 thru 48 versions; you need to install Firefox 43 and let it update.

It is ver 43.01, and checking for updates, it's offering 48.0 If I allow it to download and update, the problem I described happens.

Prior to the problem I am having, I had ver 47, seeming updating itself without me noticing. If that is the case, I should just leave it alone for a while?
