pls stop frustrating "Restore Sessions" warning upon opening browser. USERS INCREASINGLY FRUSTRATED BY DUMB LAST VERSION, IT IGNORES OUR CHOICE OF HOME PAGE

Simple. We have set our Home page (7-day weather Environment Canada) to open when opening Firefox browser. But this latest version of Firefox always tries to Restore Sessions. this is frustrating waste of users time.

I cannot find a way to disable this sillyness that always occurs. And even when we are diligent in Clearing Browsing History, the frustrating message always happens.

We may have to get rid of Firefox after 5 years of using it. PLEASE HELP US CURE THIS PROBLEM NOW!!

THANKS.

Normally, Firefox would only display that screen if its shutdown were interrupted and at startup Firefox looked at the state of its settings files and figured that it must have crashed.

Do you exit out of Firefox using the menu commands? By that I mean either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "power" button Exit
  • (menu bar) File > Exit
  • (press and release in sequence) Alt f x

That gives Firefox the best chance of shutting down normally.

Do you use CCleaner? Make sure you have the updates from the last 4 months.

If you are not interested in having Firefox do an automatic crash recovery, there is a setting you can change, but I don't recommend it. I would only use this if you can't get to the bottom of why Firefox is behaving this way.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste sess and pause while the list is filtered

(3) *NOT RECOMMENDED* Double-click the browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash preference to switch the value from true to false

When starting up from a crash, Firefox still might let you restore the previous session using one of these, but I have never tested it myself:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Restore Previous Session
  • (menu bar) History > Restore Previous Session

A common cause on this is if Firefox was still running when you shut down as this can cause Firefox to potentially crash. The crash restore is giving you a chance to resume to state Firefox was at before the crash.

If you shut down Firefox normally with enough time to do so before shutting down PC then this should not happen.
