With the last update to Firefox 87, in the context menu (right clicking), the "View image info" disappeared - in dutch "Afbeeldingsinfo bekijken". How can I get it back?

Some menus and context menus have been cleaned up in Firefox 87 and the "View Image Info" item has been removed along with some others. See the changed section of the 87.0 release notes. A possible workaround is to check the image in the Inspector via "Inspect Element" or "Inspect Accessibility Properties" instead of scrolling through "Tools -> Page Info -> Media" depending on your use case. You can also access "Page Info" via the padlock icon on the location bar (Right Arrow -> "More information").

Hi eddy_verfaillie, what were you using that item for? Were there particular details you cared about, or was it to use the Save As button there?

I collaborate with several postage stamp websites. Changing or improving the images of some stamps requires that certain characteristics thereof, including size and type, be met. I know you can also find the info via "view page info - media" but this is a detour that takes too much time for me. I found it much easier to find what I needed in one click.

I don't have a straightforward replacement for View Image Info, but I added image info to one of my existing extensions if you want to try it. Its main purpose is to convert WebP files to other formats, but ignoring that for the moment, you can access image info two different ways:

(1) Stand-alone viewer

If you right-click the image and Ctrl+click (or middle-click) View Image to open the image in a new tab, you'll get the info displayed. See first screenshot.

(2) Overlay

When you right-click an embedded image, then click "Save webP as..." the extension displays a bar of conversion buttons, along with an "info" button. The info button provides as much information about the image as I've figured out how to provide as of today. See second screenshot.

Extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/save-webp-as-png-or-jpeg/

Maybe I can make that a little more targeted, but not this weekend.

Thanks for this information, it was really helpful.

Hi eddy_verfaillie, I posted an extension more similar to the old feature last week, and after six updates (busy week) I think it's better alternative for most people than my other extension. If you want to take a look:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/view-image-info-reborn/

If you can think of new/different features to improve it, let me know.

Meanwhile, there is work under way to return the built-in feature in a future update, maybe in two months.

And I'll try to get the more comprehensive info into my old extension (but it needs a big overhaul, so that might not come any time soon).

View Image Info is scheduled to return in Firefox 89 in June. There will be a preference to enable it in about:config.

Yet another example of Mozilla's philosophy of "Less convenient is better." It astounds me that Mozilla has made so many user-UNfriendly design changes. Firefox has been going downhill steadily since version 3.

"View Image Info" should definitely be restored, but it should NOT require a hidden preference.

Note that Firefox 89.0 is scheduled for release next Tuesday June 1st.

The name of the pref on the about:config page is browser.menu.showViewImageInfo.
