i updated to 4.0.1 a couple days ago. no problem doing the update, downloading the new version. but i seem to be missing certain things (reload and stop "buttons") on my new version as well as having some things not functional (back and forward "buttons"). i'm not able to create links or hyperlinks at websites that i was able to create them at before this new version. that's just what i know of that's "wonky", who knows what else isn't in my version or isn't functional?

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
  • Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Firefox 4 uses a combined Stop/Reload/Go button that is positioned at the right end side of the location bar. During the page load process it shows as a Stop button and after the loading has finished the button is changed to a Reload button. If you type in the location bar then that button becomes a Go button. Middle-click the Reload button to duplicate the current tab to a new tab.

Make sure that all the toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"

  • If items are missing then open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"
  • If a missing item is in the toolbar palette then drag it back from the Customize window on the toolbar
  • If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up.

A possible cause for issues with bookmarks is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

thank you! ok, i've made progress on the wonky-ness issues. i now have the reload/stop "button" restored. i still have a set of non-functional back and forward "buttons", and still cannot create links or hyper links. i think part of the problem is that the navigation bar does not display the url while i'm at various web sites, it just lists "go to a web site" in light gray there. and when i'm in view/customize, i can click "done" but all that happens is that i lose things -- like the reload/stop "buttons", which i can restore by clicking on "restore default set" but then have to quit firefox to get out of the customize window.

Not working toolbar buttons can also be caused by extensions that aren't working properly.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

ok. i started firefox in safe mode. everything seems to be functioning properly while in safe mode. i did not make any changes on the safe mode window.

so, do you think it's one of the extensions causing the issues? and how would i check the extensions and make any corrections/changes?

weird, but everything seems to be functioning properly now. all i did was to "disable all add-ons", then i enabled them again one at a time until they were all enabled once again. they all are enabled at the same time now and everything is functioning properly.

maybe something was "thrown off" when i updated to 4.0.1, and disabling and then re-enabling the extensions again somehow reset whatever was thrown off.

all is right in my little slice of the world once again!

thank you!
