Hi, I cannot drag the Firefox log normally to the left of the address in the browser window over to the Home symbol because it has been replaced by the padlock.

Hello,

Following a recent download of a defrag program I failed to notice that it carried bitable.com. This page

(direct access to social networks sites, Google YT etc ) has now displaced my dedicated Home Page which is Google Actualities. I cannot find a way of removing the nuisance site/page but when I try to make Google Actualities my Home Page by dragging the Mozilla logo (normally to the left of your address in my browser window I find that it has been replced by......the padlock!).

Really would be grateful if anyone could shed light on my preicament. Thank y en avance.

Regards,

David

Chosen solution

the only thing that should be there is the path to the firefox.exe file (something like "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe") - delete anything else from that line.

in addition run a scan with the adwcleaner tool recommended above.

hello david, please go to the firefox menu ≡ > addons > extensions & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or recently installed potentially unwanted software from there. finally, run a full scan of your system with different security tools specialised on adware like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner.

Hi Phillip,

Thanks for that and now running malwarebytes but nothing showing yet. Have checked 'All Programs' in Control Panel and nothing dodgy looking there - certainly nothing called bitable.com. Nothing in Add Ons or Extensions either.

Will keep trying.

Thanks again,

David

please also right-click the desktop shortcut you're using to open firefox, go to properties and see if the offending url is appended there at the end of the target line to the firefox path.

Helpful yes, but not sure what to do about it! It does in fact appear there in Properties but as a novice I am not sure how I should change it. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks.

Cordialament,

David

Hi Phillip,

Strange one. I ran the Adware and it did not detect anything and right clicking the desktop shortcut initially revealed the file address you indicated + the bitable.com tail however, no change. I then eliminated the Firefox icon from the task bar at the bottom of the screen/desktop and tried booting up only from the main icon on the desktop -voila! Of course, whilst browsing in FF the icon re-appears on the task bar but I end the session by clicking the white cross in the red box - top right. No problem/trouble. The only thing that concerns me is that bitable.com is still somewher on my m/c. Any ideas on that one svp?

Really appreciate your responses. Thank you.

David
