I am using Thunderbird version 31.7.0 and it keeps randomly crashing when usually when I try to send an e-mail. The e-mail appears to go out, but it is not copied to my send folder. I can keep it working is I use safe mode.

My Crash links are: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/9e388085-aa3d-454c-bf55-924102150612 https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/2613f4fa-89d4-49c3-92ad-4f3292150612 https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/a5f726e5-8f62-40a9-9087-4bab92150610

Hopefully someone has an idea how to fix this. It appears every crash is for the same reason.

Thank you for your help.

Chosen solution

Now it may just be a coincidence, but every crash is for Version 31 of Thunderbird. Go to Help > about and check for an update and see if there is a crash in 38.

Thunderbird crashed with all plugins and extensions disabled. see: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/80b6257b-6075-4478-9c3a-58ad42150612

Is anyone who can help with this or do I switch to an different e-mail client after 20+years?

Thinderbird appears to be crashing exactly the same way every time.

Just what sort of emails are these. Some of the DLLs that are active are adobe flash and that is not supported in email, so i am sort of confused.

Just standard e-mails, some with attachments, some without. I have had crashes in safe mode. I have tried not enabling most plugins. I cannot track this to any specific operation, but it seems to happen more often when Thunderbird has been running for a while.

Thank you for your help.

I have discovered that it appears that e-mails are getting posted to the send mail server, but are not getting copied to my sent folder either locally or on the imap sever.

Updated to 38.0.1. There are many drawing problems until I cleared my cache. Unfortunately one of my favorite Extensions is no longer working, "Extra Folder Columns".

I will update in a day or 2 relative to the crashing.

more options

I see the Folder Columns functionality has been restored to Thunderbird, therefore there is no need for the extension any longer.

I downgraded to V31.0.0, There are drawing problems with 38.0.1 and it would not send mail through my imap server.

What drawing issues Mike? Please explain.

Most post update send issues are anti virus firewalls waiting for an update from home. A manual firewall check and update usually fixes things. Expressly allowing Thunderbird version whatever access.

When I would open the Extensions or addons all I would get was a blank box until I resized the window. There were some sections of the standard window would be blank until I resized.

did you have to make it larger? or would smaller also work? Did you try with hardware acceleration turned off.

Tools menu (alt+T) > options > advanced > general for that setting.

I think Just resizing seemed to correct the problem.

I think I tried this without success.

IF I get a chance I will install the latest version to see if things have improved.

This is all about the graphics driver. Please go to Help | Troubleshooting - copy the text of the graphics section and paste it here in the support topic
