when I configer a pop account to leave messages till i delete them does that mean that if I delete them from thunderbird it will delete them from yahoo mail
I use a pop account in conjunction with yahoo mail. I only want messages deleted from my yahoo account if I delete them while in the yahoo account and I only want messages deleted from Thunderbird if I delete them while using Thunderbird. I cant understand the accounts settings in Thunderbird. I can tick the box that says leave messages till I delete them but does that mean till I delete them in Thunderbird or till I delete them in Yahoo mail? What should the settings be to insure that if I delete messages while using Thunderbird they are only deleted from Thunderbird and if I delete messages from Yahoo mail they are only deleted from Yahoo mail? Many thanks

Tick leave messages on server. Untick both of the next settings.
You are done.

Thank you Matt, you are most understanding. It seems so obvious now you say it I feel a bit stupid. It was the layout that fooled me. I thought that if I ticked that one I had to tick one of the other boxes under that heading as well. Thanks again.
I can't find a tick box saying Leave messages on server. Where is it? (I'm using Thunderbird 45.2.0)
If you are using IMAP then there is not that option in Thunderbird. This conversation is about using POP.
If using Pop then its Highlight account click on view settings for this account click on server settings about three quarters down the page there is a click box
So what's the situation regarding IMAP?
IMAP is server based. Messages are only on the server.
OK; that explains it. Thanks
