Hi Matt! Thank you for your fast replay. The antivirus I use is Sophos versione 10.6 with the viruses signature updated every day form the University of Basilicata repository. What upset me is that until 38.7 I did not have any problem with the antivirus why should the following versions be blocked by the same antivirus ?

Because anti virus programs are often hard coded with a version of an executable that they should allow. Change the version and it kicks up a fuss and refuses to play because this new version is dangerous or whatever.

Bottom line is try Windows safe mode with networking and see if that allows latter version to work.

OR it could be that th3e mail server fails best practice on SSL/TLS.

Try putting it in this web site https://www.htbridge.com/ssl/ if it fails, then that is probably the reason. There have been lots of changes to SSL/ TLS in the last couple of years.

I have to add that I have accounts on Gmail, Hotmail, libero.it, unibas.it though their grade were all F according to the site you suggested. On the other hand using the consolle when I send the message irrespective on the default outgoing server I get the following message. I unistalled Chrome suspecting some problem but without any benficial outcome.

What is annoying is that it is impossible to get both versions 45.2 and the older that works.

I solved the problem by myself. It was the add-on check-send befor sending the e-mail that does not work starting from version 45. though the install program doesn't say anything about or disable the option. Anyway thank you very much for the effort and suggesting to use the ctrl-shift-J kays to give a look to the consolle. All the best! Francesco

By the way it dies not war if you just disable the addon od. It must be deleted and restarted the Thunderdbird
