I had two computers active at the same time, one old xp machine and this Windows 7 machine. I thought if I clear all mail from this one, the old one would retain them. But all mail was deleted from both...arrrgghh I restored the old one to yesterday, which did nothing. How can I get these emails back into my inbox? (either) I have looked on the web, but nothing helped? (different systems?)

Sounds like you are using IMAP email. It is server based and that is exactly how it works. I will let you Google IMAP for a tutorial and the difference between IMAP and POP.

As for your messages, have you looked in the Trash folder? If this is gmail check the All Mail folder.
