I use Ubuntu Mate. And this morning I have to reinstall it. The folder containing my Firefox profile was in a different partition, so that it was not removed during the new installation. When installation finished I opened the Firefox profile manager and create a new profile which points at the right folder. By running Firefox from the profile manager there is no problem. By trying from the panel or from the terminal I receive the error message: "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible". I checked the profiles.ini and it seems absolutely correct. Moreover even with Firefox opened, the links from Thunderbird try to open a new Firefox windows and give the error.

Did you check the owner and read/write permissions of the profile folder in both location (main/cache) to make sure that the current user has write access?

I am the owner of the profile folder and everyone has permissions to read and write. I also tried to reinstall Ubuntu Mate and I have now installed Mint, but nothing has changed.
