I want the Awesome Bar to act like a regular search bar!
Firefox 3.6.12 / Windows 7 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/20101026 Firefox/3.6.12
i just moved back to firefox after chrome took away the ability to manually manage my cookies. So I want the Awesome Bar to act the same way a search bar acts. When I put in a word or a name, I DON'T want it to automatically go to a URL. I want all my GOOGLE search results from which *I* will decide where I want to go. Right now, I'm using the Google search bar AND the location bar to show where I am since the google bar only shows the search.
Is there a way for the location bar to simply be a search bar??
Chosen solution
- Type about:config into the location bar and press enter
- Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
- Locate the preference keyword.URL, double click on it and change its value to the link shown below, this will make it go to a Google search results page.

Yup! That's it! The option that was there was the second one in the article:

I've been trying for three days to make that happen. Thank you!!!
I got this to work on my PC, but now it won't do it on my FF4 for Mobile. It goes to a page called "Search Assist" saying I didn't type in a valid browser address. I understand that they want me to press the magnifying glass drop down, and then select a search engine, but this is a waste. I just want to hit "Go" and get Google search results, just like my phone used to do.
