In the last week, AOL email hangsup, crashes, etc. AOL says it's the fault of FireFox and I should switch to Safari!
I use Firefox 3.6.6 as my browser on my Mac using 10.6.6 both at home and at work (A public high school). The problem is on my home Mac. I have high speed wireless.I use AOL for e-mail. Last week, my AOL e-mail started slowing down, hanging up, crashing, freezing, etc. As an AOL subscriber I could call AOL. The tech support's comments were I should switch to Safari, Firefox is not supported by Apple/ Mac, clear my history, and I should deal with Firefox. AOL sent a followup that that did not allow me to file out the 'comments' section. Is Firefox really the problem?

As for Firefox not being supported by Mac, well it is probably not 'supported' by Microsoft either, but it has a few users.

Thank you, Firefox folks for the message and reply. I had updated Firefox to the latest version. After all the 'phoning and fussing', I backed off to Firefox 3.6.15 and all is back to normal with my AOL E-mail. In future, I may not be so quick to be a 'first adopter".
Modified
It may be worth noting that the beta version is normally installed in addition to the stable release. It is also standard practice to setup an additional profile so that each browser version has a unique profile to use.
You are likely to run into problems with firefox if you attempt to run two versions with the one profile.
By having two versions on the computer you may choose which version to use, for instance you may choose to use 4 at work and 3.6 at home on the AOL ISP. IMO it has always been a good idea to keep manual backups of bookmarks, and with firefox 4 you will probably have noticed the Sync feature
Sorry to say that I had the same problem with Chrome and Internet Explorer. I have been advising people to download their email addresses from their AOL and AIM mail just in case. The problems they are having is more than Firefox.
Anyone reading this old thread if you have a problem I suggest you start your own thread by asking a question follow the link and prompts /questions/new
Probably not a good idea to post in old threads, things change fairly quickly, Firefox Release was 3.6 when this was asked and we are now on firefox 11 with firefox 12 on Beta.
