when installing MS Media Player, it opens a new browser window, and requires all other windows to be closed - including the one with all my tabs, app tabs and tab groups. Once this is closed, the install window becomes the only open browser window. After the install, when you reopen the browser, the last session is the install window and the browser version with all the tabs, app tabs and tab groups is lost. Is there a way to save the tabs, app tabs, and tab group settings so they do not get lost?

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.

You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"

To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history

  • Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"

App (pinned) tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data [1] in the file sessionstore.js [2] in the Firefox profile folder [3].

Make sure that you do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Browsing History" when Firefox is closed because that prevails and prevents Firefox from opening tabs from the previous session.
