Running on Windows 7 with Firefox 13.1

Browser is dial-up slow. A friend showed me that CPU is maxed out, RAM is fine. We reset FF, I was able to install my add-ons. I ran in safe mode with add-ons disabled, still slow as ever.

I cannot download the latest version of FF. When I click the DL button on FF website I am taken to a page for subscribing to the newsletter and in this process the download button never shows itself again. I am unable to DL the latest version. My friend tried to DL a version of Chrome & even that didn't work. For past month, when I DL music from Rhapsody, I end up with a totally empty fold (installing Rhapsody software didn't help either)

Everything is painfully slow & it seems I am unable to download anything, however I was able to install the add-ons after resetting. If anyone can help me fix this, please exaplin is easy, childlike explanations because I am not totally computer savvy. Thanks

I need to revise this question....my husband just informed me that our friend fixed the issue with the CPU (I don't know how to check it) and installed google chrome, although to my eye it appears that he made google the home page--I don't see google as a browser anywhere. Is there any other reason our internet is do ungoldly slow? We've check the modem, the phone line, everything is fine there.

DSL should not be this slow. Husband also told me after our firend left last night it took him 90 minuets to open ebay.com. 90 minuets!! He went to bed after that because he didn't have another 90 minuets to open My eBay

Additional info...I checked my plug-ins and checked for updates. There are no updates available. Java was last updated in Aug 2012 and for a few weeks I was getting a pop up saying Java needed to be updated every day, several times per day. I clicked to update and apparently it never did. I am thinking this could have something to do with our problem perhaps but I do not know so much about these things.

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version of the Firefox installer.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

If you have problems with connecting to the internet after updating then it is possible that security software (firewall,anti-virus) in blocking or restricting Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
