When 20 came around, I immediately got back the downloads window, 'cause, y'know, the whole download tab was just an awful, awful idea. "Oops, I accidentally closed Firefox while my downloads were still going!" "Never fear, the downloads window is still open, and so they haven't stopped!" "Nope, not anymore - how cool is that?"

Anyway, I digest...

Updated to 21, now the taskbar isn't showing the green progress bar for the downloads window, just %. Is there a way to get this back please? AND IF NOT, WHY NOT.

Thanks for your help!

Try checking for a userChrome.css file or a Stylish userstyle?

I finally got it working - also overwrote prefs.js with the default. I had to reset my options, but still everything else saved. To me the most important thing was not losing all the cookies I had blocked - everything else was minor - this still kept those.

All exceptions are stored in the permissions.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder.
You may want to create a backup if those exceptions are important to you.

Please let me know how you broke it. I would very much like to break the (*@#% thing, which apparently cannot be turned off.

Hi joe_blaugh, if your question is how to change from the Firefox 20 style download panel back to the pre-Firefox 20 download manager, see this thread: Got new version, want to go back to previous download box, the new one has no history and doesn't show speed of download, how do I go back?

Joe Blaugh: I don't know how I broke it - apparently it had something to do with corrupting the prefs.js file, but it wasn't on purpose. :) Hopefully the article jscher2000 linked to will help you out.

That does nothing to rid me of the toxic green shite at the bottom of my screen. I can find info about downloads when I want to, but now I have it sitting there in front of everyone including colleagues wheth I want it or not. I used to think firefox was superior to gugle's rusty nail offering because I could make it look the way I wanted. No more... It appears that Firefox has decided to "do things the right way" as the gugtards tend to respond when I tell them something is an annoyance (thus my non-use of things gugley

Hi joe_blaugh, is the "toxic" green thing the arrow?? Just customize it off the bar like you would with any other unwanted control. Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars If it's something else, please post a screen shot or describe it plainer terms so I can understand what you're talking about.

No. Toxic green is the hideous color Firefox turns my taskbar icon to when downloading, advertising to all and sundry in a particularly ugly fashion that a download is in progress. It sucks, it's ugly, and firefox does not provide any way to turn it off. Poor design choice. I understand the thought process behind developing it, but making it a mandatory "feature" was not a good decision. I like the arrow and urlbar icon - they are unobtrusive and somewhat useful. I just wish there were a way to show only those elements. Gugle's browser does similar things now, but I always expect it to be less configurable and more like gugle wants it to be than like I want it to be (just look at the mess they are making of gugle mail... makes me glad I found a different mail provider).
